History of Audemars Piguet

The company’s history can be traced back to 1876, when two men founded the company in Switzerland. Before they started the business, one of the men created the parts for watch movements, while the other, a man named Edward-Auguste Piguet, assisted in the final production of timepieces. A short time later the company Audemars Piguet was founded. Since that date, members of both founding families have always been part of the board of the directors.

The first Audemars Piguet watch branch was opened in 1889, which is also when the business began to manufacture its own watch. It quickly grew into a major company in Switzerland, and was well known for producing complicated and attractive watches. Many watches were bought by other companies and rebranded during this time. Some timepieces from companies such as Cartier were originally Audemars Piguet watches, and can be identified using the serial number.

Audemars Piguet sponsors a number of famous sportsmen, including the golfers Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood. The company also supports several high profile sporting events.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

One of the company’s most famous collections is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore. Depending on the exact model, and whether the watch is a vintage Audemars Piguet, Royal Oak timepieces can sell for tens of thousands of dollars. If, for example, you wanted to buy a Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Grand Prix Chronometer, then this would cost anywhere up to $50,000.

Other Audemars Piguet Collections

Another famous Audemars Piguet collection is the Jules Audemars series. These watches can be bought with a variety of different cases, including pink gold and white gold with set diamonds. Other collections include the Audemars Piguet Lady Royal Oak and Millenary. Second hand Audemars Piguet watches can be expensive, which is why it’s important to study a watch before you buy to check for any signs of a fake.
