History of Girard Perregaux
When Jean-Francois Bautte first began selling watches he did so as a small business which eventually grew into Girard Perregaux. The company didn’t call itself Girard Perregaux until 1856 when Constant Girard married Mari Perregaux. The company has filed around 70 patents and are one of the foremost companies when it comes to developing watch technology.
Some of the significant watches created by Girard Perregaux include the gold Lepine watch which was created by Bautte himself and the first wristwatch that became commercially popular during the late 1800’s. Over two thousand watches were manufactured and it signifies a moment in history when the mass produced wristwatch became viable.
The company recently revealed some of the most stylish watches it’s every created in the 66 collection. The Girard Perregaux 1966 collection uses styles and designs that mimic those used during the 1960’s whilst also using a modern feel to bring them into the 21st century. The 1966 collection comes with an automatic winding system making it a convenient, functional and beautiful collection of watches.
Sea Hawk
As the name suggests, the Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk collection was originally created as a solution for those who needed a waterproof watch. It debuted in the 1940s and is still going strong today as one of Girard-Perregaux’s most popular collections. Today, the Sea Hawk range is specifically for people who want watches that can be used whilst diving.
The latest version of the Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk was designed towards the start of the century and combines a highly resistant case with state of the art design and style. Depending on the model the Sea Hawk collection can be used down to depths of 3000 metres.
Laureato
First created in the 1970’s, the Laureato collection is one of the most contemporary collections from Girard-Perregaux. Even though some may consider the Girard-Perregaux Laureato to be a collection of sports watches there’s no doubt that they have far more class and elegance than other watches that could fit into the same category.
Some of the features that are included in various models of the Laureato are a moon phase dial, a large date feature and a power reserve indicator. There’s also a choice of metal including pink gold and steel.
Cat’s Eye
Girard-Perregaux doesn’t just make men’s watches – they have many women’s collections too. One example is the Cat’s Eye collection which is a relatively new product line from Girard-Perregaux. First built in 2004, the Cat’s Eye collection has won several awards for its distinctive and attractive style. There are a number of different models within the collection although all maintain the basic features that make the collection so special.
For example, the Cat’s eye Bi-Retro model is one of the most popular watches in the collection and combines smooth lines with stunning colours and features. It also includes moon phase and date indicators.
Girard-Perregaux also manufacture a number of chronometer watches. A chronometer watch has undergone strict test to measure its accuracy.
