Omega Watch History

Omega SA was originally founded in 1848 and its headquarters are currently located in the Swiss city of Bienne. The current president is Nicolas Hayek.

Some famous people that have worn Omega watches include Prince William, John F.Kennedy and Nicole Kidman. Omega watches have appeared regularly in modern James bond films which has helped to enhance the brands reputation as a sophisticated watch maker. The first watch on the moon was also an Omega as it’s the manufacturer of choice for NASA.

Louis Brandt was the founder of the company in 1848. He manufactured pocket watches that were known for their high precision and sold them in a variety of different markets including the UK. The company became Omega in 1903 when the two owners died. At this point the forerunner to Omega was already a large company that employed hundreds of people. The rebranding as Omega, however, was the start of business becoming one of the most recognised in the world.

One of the main reasons that Omega has become such a well known brand is its frequent sports sponsorship. Aside from being the timekeeper of the Olympic Games (both summer and winter versions) it’s also sponsored individual sports teams and golf events. As Omega watches are known for their precision it's no surprise that many have passed chronometer certifications.

Omega Constellation Collection

The Omega Constellation collection is around 50 years old and during its life has been one of the cornerstones of the Omega brand. The Constellation collection includes a number of different watches with a variety of styles. There are also both men’s and women’s versions of the watch. The main difference between the various models is the metal that’s used, the shape and the size. You can also buy Constellation watches that come with embedded diamonds. When buying an Omega Constellation watch you also need to decide whether you’d prefer a model that comes with numbers or Roman numerals.

Some of the watches that are included in the Constellation collection are the Chronometer 35 mm, Quartz 35mm and the Double Eagle Chrono.

Omega Seamaster Collection

The Seamaster collection contains more watches than the Constellation collection and also includes men’s and women’s versions. As you can tell by the name the Seamaster collection contains watches that can be used for diving down to a certain level. For example, the Seamaster Professional Diver Chronometer watch can dive down to a depth of 300 metres.

Some watches included within the Seamaster collection are the Planet Ocean (a simple watch that includes a helium valve), the Aqua Terra and the Ploprof 1200m. You can also buy SeaMaster Chronometers.

Omega Deville Collection

The Deville collection contains more ornate watches than the other collections by Omega. Some of the collection include multiple dials such as a chronometer and date display.

Examples of the Deville collection include the Co-axial Chronograph and the Prestige quartz.
