History of Patek Philippe

Many vintage watch makers have a long and interesting history but most can’t match the experience of Patek Philippe. The company was established by a Polish watch expert called Antoni Norbert Patek.  Unlike the majority of vintage watch manufacturers who didn’t start producing wristwatches until the early twentieth century, Patek Philippe produced their first wristwatch in 1868. Since then they have also been at the forefront of the development of features such as split second hands and chronographs.

Although Patek Philippe mainly manufactures automatic and manual mechanical movements they do have a range of quartz versions. Most of the components of a Patek Philippe watch are manufactured by the company rather than being outsourced to other watch makers.

Vintage Patek Philippe chronometers and chronographs have high sales prices at auction due to their quality. The company also have their own museum for Patek Philippe watches and it’s not unheard of for them to buy back their own watches at auction in order to expand their collection.

Another example of an expensive watch manufactured by Patek Philippe is the Sky Moon Tourbillion wristwatch. This particular watch became the world’s most expensive wristwatch in 2003 when it was sold for $11.75 million. Due to the prestige that goes along with the company name, Patek Philippe have also produced a number of watches for royalty and other important figures including Queen Victoria and Pope Leo XIII. For people who love horology there is no better timepiece than a Patek Philippe watch.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut

The Patek Philippe Aquanaut often costs around $15,000 depending on the exact model and was originally launched in 1997. Since then it has gone on to become a favourite amongst watch connoisseurs for its elegant and effortless style. When it comes to sports dress watches there aren’t many that can match the casual yet graceful design of the Aquanaut. The watch is made using an octagonal shape rather than the traditional circle or square. It also comes with a “tropical” strap which is made from a material that is soft as well as highly durable and resistant.

Patek Philippe Calatrava

The watch Patek Philippe Calatrava is much older than the Aquanaut and was originally manufactured in 1932. It retains a feminine style but using stylish and soft lines to create a beautiful timepiece. There are both ladies and men’s versions of the Calatrava and it can cost tens of thousands of pounds to buy one. Patek Philippe Calatrava prices always depend on the model of the watch as there are a variety of different features and materials which could be used.
