The IWC Ingenieur range is a collection of watches originally released over 50 years ago. It was IWC’s first watch which could self-wind and also came with an anti-magnetic shield. This allowed it to be used in working situations – such as those found in some medical facilities – where strong electromagnetic fields are present. Pre owned IWC Ingenieur watches are highly sought after amongst both professionals and horological collectors due to the watch’s uniquely simple design. One thing to note is that the Ingenieur range has undergone a number of changes and hence vintage IWC Ingenieur watches differ from newer models in many ways.

The IWC Ingenieur was originally developed with the working man in mind. The goal of the watch was to create a timepiece which was clear, easy to use and robust so that it could be used by a wide range of different professionals. At different stages of the Ingenieur there have been various changes to the watch. For example, at one point the Ingenieur range was changed to try and directly compete with a Rolex model. This was a failure so IWC returned to a largely classic design.
There are a number of different options when buying used or pre owned Ingenieur watches. For example, timepieces which come with a yellow gold bracelet will nearly always be more expensive than stainless steel versions. If you want chronograph capabilities then this can also affect the price. The watch movement – whether quartz or mechanical – will also have a bearing on the value.
One of the things you need to watch out for when buying pre owned IWC Ingenieur is whether it’s a genuine model or a fake. If the seller is selling a replica watch then he or she should state this clearly in the watch description and quote an asking price which is reflective of the fact that it isn’t a genuine IWC watch. Some sellers will try to pass a fake Ingenieur as a real one and charge full value for it which is illegal.
Distinguishing between a real and fake pre owned IWC Ingenieur for sale isn’t always easy – even for professionals. Some of the things you should look out for are misspellings on the case, a watch which is lighter than it should be and slight differences in design. This isn’t straightforward if you don’t have an example of the watch to compare to but a printed image of a genuine Ingenieur will suffice.
