History of Vacheron Constantin

The company was originally known as Vacheron & Constantin, but the name was changed in the 1970s. Vacheron Constantin is the oldest manufacturers of vintage watches, as it was established in 1755 by a man named Jean Marc Vacheron. There are other manufacturers who were established before this date, but none can claim an uninterrupted history of watch making.

During the 17th century, the company had to deal with a variety of problems, including the French Revolution. It wasn’t until the 1800s that Vacheron Constantin began to export products to different countries – initially Italy and France. Soon after this, a man named Francois Constantin became a partner in the business, hence the name.
Despite the company’s success, the first Vacheron Constantin boutique wasn’t opened until the start of the 20th century. The business found it difficult during the first half of the century, partly due to the Great Depression and the two World Wars. After World War II, however, the company began producing some of its most famous timepieces, including the Patrimony collection.

Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Watches

When the Patrimony collection of watches was first released, the timepieces were the thinnest ever produced, at just over 5mm. The watches are generally simple in design, yet highly attractive and collectible. Vintage Vacheron Constantin Patrimony watches can sell for a range of prices, from $5000 to more than $20000, depending on the specifications of the watch and what complications it includes.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Watches

Vacheron Constantin Overseas watches are also highly collectible, with some selling for excess of $30,000. A Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph in rose and gold, for example, can fetch close to $40,000.

Other Vacheron Constantin Collections

There are a number of other collections currently available. The Vacheron Constantin Malte series of watches, for example, is popular, as is the Vacheron Constantin Historiques. In 2007 the company released its latest collection, the Métiers d’Art series. Second hand Vacheron Constantin watches sell for a range of prices, with the cost of a watch depending on which collection it belongs to, how old it is and what condition it is in.
