Specifications
The Omega Seamaster was originally produced in the 1940’s although the collection has undergone some major design change since then. Aside from the 300 there are other models of Seamaster including the Planet Ocean and Aqua Terra. The original Seamaster 300 watch usually didn’t contain any complications and was around 40mm in diameter. There is some variety between Seamaster 300 watches though – even those that were manufactured around the same time.
Many Seamaster 300 watches were made with an automatic winding movement. Genuine Seamaster 300 watches are rare because they are one of the most sought after watches for collectors. The 300 is considered to be a sports watch.
The most important feature of the Omega Seamaster 300 is that it’s water resistant down to a depth of 300m. When the Seamaster range was first created it was far less common for a watch to be water resistant than it is today. For this reason the Seamaster 300 quickly became a favourite amongst divers.
Vintage Omega Seamaster 300 prices vary depending on a number of different factors. These include the year the watch was made, whether it has been modified in any way, whether it still functions correctly and what condition the case is in. The condition of the movement is one of the most important factors when it comes to judging the value of a vintage watch. For example, an Omega Seamaster which is in a good condition can cost thousands of dollars depending on where you buy from. Often, auction sites such as eBay are the best places to buy vintage Omega Seamaster watches as they regularly become available. It can be very difficult to find Seamaster 300 watches for sale otherwise.
Spotting a Fake Omega Seamaster 300
One of the easiest ways of telling a fake Omega Seamaster 300 for sale from an original is using the writing on the back. The “A” in the word “waterproof” on an original watch will have a flat top. If the A has a pointed top then this is definitely a fake. The word certified is often misspelled on the back of fake watches which is another thing to watch out for.
You should keep in mind that a watch with a genuine Omega movement is not the same as a genuine Omega Seamaster 300 watch. The movements are much more common than the watch.
